Socketed Ball Bar Set, Standard Reference Material No. 2083, still available from the National Institute for Standards & Technology (formerly National Bureau of Standards) at $2580 list price. Complete and unused in fitted wooden case.

Used for checking the calibration of coordinate measuring machines. Accuracy dependent on thermal expansion of the steel rods and on the roundness of the balls, which originally was within +/- 0.5 micrometers (10 microinches); the roundness charts are no longer with the set, however. Bar lengths can be made up in 50 millimeter increments from 100 millimeters to 1650 millimeters.
